What is Portable Appliance Testing?

PAT Testing is the term for testing portable electrical appliances. All appliances need a visual test and inspection every 12 months. But timing may vary based on use.

What is a portable electrical appliance?

A portable electrical appliance refers to any device that is either moved during operation or can be effortlessly relocated from one location to another. This criterion applies to appliances weighing less than 18kg and includes items intended for operation while in motion or easily transported, such as vacuum cleaners, toasters, or food mixers.

Is this your first time PAT Testing?

If this is your initial attempt at scheduling a routine test for your electrical appliance, there's no need to worry. Our engineers will handle everything for you. All you need is a rough estimate of how many items require testing

We will give you a quote based on the quantity you provided. But, if there are more or fewer items, we will change the invoice. Once the PAT Testing service is done, we will email you a full list of items tested. We will also send a PAT Test certificate. If you would like to discuss this with one of our team, please call 07388 182990 .

What is the cost of PAT Testing

We have a minimum call-out fee for all local jobs, this includes the first 10 items. Prices start at 75p for each additional item. We aim to offer the best possible service in Cheshire at a competitive price.

PAT Testing labels

PAT Testing labels show an item was inspected. Each label has a unique number, date, and tester's name allowing traceability.

How can we ensure that every appliance undergoes testing?

Our PAT Testing procedures ensure that we test all equipment. We make sure that all equipment is unplugged and checked correctly before we give a full PAT Test. Each item will be labelled with a unique label and number.

How are items tested?

Our PAT Testers use the latest PAT Testing equipment on the market. All our engineers are issued with Seaward Apollo 500 and 600 testers. This offers a fast and reliable service to all our customers.

What happens if an item fails?

The next action can vary depending on the failure. Our engineers may repair the item on-site, or we may condemn it.

How long will it take to Test our items?

The time for PAT Testing varies by quantities and work environments. It can take from a few hours to a few weeks. We aim to test 150 to 200 items a day. The number depends on where the items are.

Out of hours Testing

Testing appliances for electrical safety may cause disruption, if it happens during business hours. But not all businesses will be affected. This is why we provide our PAT Testing service at any time of the day or night, 7 days a week.

If you need service outside of office hours, our team will deliver quality service. We will do so at a time convenient to you. We find that with large offices and premises, an out-of-hours service is the best solution. This ensures your business has zero downtime if critical equipment needs turning off.

On completion

Upon completion, you will be emailed a certificate and a detailed report of each item. The certificate acts as proof that the person responsible has taken the necessary steps to ensure safety. The detailed report will highlight the pass or fails of each item.

Where do we test?

We carry out PAT Testing across Cheshire, with clients based in Chester, Greater Manchester, and the whole of the North West.
